Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2022 Mercedes-Benz Metris Passenger Van, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Fuel system7No crashes

The engine sputters, hesitates under acceleration, or slows down without warning, sometimes at highway speed and with no warning lights. Most of the 5 complaints, though, are about a recall repair that cannot be done because the part is not available. Dealers confirm the shortage, and owners say the wait has gone past a reasonable time. Several of these owners have not had a failure yet. Losing power at highway speed is a crash risk in traffic. The only mileage reported is very low, at 4,650 miles.

Two failures are reported. In the first, the engine misfires and the check engine light comes on with random and cylinder-specific misfire codes. A mechanic traced it to low fuel pressure from a failed low-pressure fuel pump. Low fuel pressure can cause misfires and can stall the engine, which is risky in traffic. In the second, a dealer technician finds fuel leaking from the upper fuel line during routine service, at about 35k miles, even though the line looks to be in good condition.
